Using social Media
I am not sure if any one has noticed but lately when doing a search in google invariably google brings up real time search. That is, it will include feeds from twitter, and other social media platforms including You tube broadcast yourself and facebook. This has changed from the way google used to search as they now want up to date information from all the searches that it does.
Social media has certainly changed the way that people use google, searcher’s now expect to see twitter feeds in the search results. This is why it is so important for all online business to have a social presence on the web. This also goes for business that are offline real business’, by that I mean the business has physical shop, they have real estate and also employ staff to sell their products from a counter.
Using social media is just one leg of your marketing plan. your marketing plan must include the use of social media, IE twitter, facebook pages and blogs to name a few. Do not think that these are the only way to get customers. Newspaper advertising, magazine advertising, flyer drops etc, still have an important part to play and this is to drive prospective customers to your retail shop, to your web site,or to your phone number. Never forget that you can still do business over the phone.
I am constantly amazed that business owners are not capturing the email addresses of their customers. This is so easy to do and then it is so easy to market to them by email and the costs are negligible. You can write a letter telling them of your specials etc, send one email and you have touched thousands of people. Again there is a system as to how to do this. There is a saying, that the more times you are in contact with your customers the more you will sell. That stands to reason doesn‘t it?
I have got a little off track but the fact remains that you must have a presence on the web, but you cannot give away your traditional marketing. The ideal marketing plan is a plan that combines the two. Traditional marketing and the new style of marketing on the web using web sites, social media and word of mouth.

the internet provides plenty of ways to let your friends and family know exactly what you’re up to. but those constant updates can be viewed by almost anyone — and our joe bartels explains how one website is making the point — beware what you share. “armed away, exit now.” locking doors, setting alarms and making sure the mail has been picked up — they are all steps to take to keep crooks from targeting your home. but your online activity could be tipping off thieves as well. “there is a lot of stuff out there that we once didn’t have available. a lot of technology being used that we didn’t have 10 years ago, 5 years ago, wasn’t available.” social networking sites like twitter and facebook — allow users to give near constant updates of what they’re up to. “some people do it several times a day, updating their location with their mobile device– sharing with the world where they are …. and where they aren’t.” and when you announce your away from home — this website — “please rob me dot com” — may take notice. “i think it’s frightening, i think it’s terribly frightening. there isn’t just techie’s involved in these networks.” the website displays tweets from people — stating they are out and about — giving an open invitation to thieves. the website operators say they don’t want to promote crime — but rather — make people think about what they choose to share. “the thing is, we have to understand that the crooks out there are smart, they e paying attention to these types of sites, these types of advertisements, if you will, that you’re not at home and it’s a perfect opportunity for burglary in your home. the creators of “please rob me dot com” say their site is nothing more than a dressed up twitter search page.. they add that even without their site — the information you tweet is available for all to see
