Social networks and trust : NetTrust

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Google Tech Talks
February, 28 2008

ABSTRACT

NetTrust is a system that embeds social context in browsing by combining individual histories, social networks, and explicit ratings. NetTrust combines an implicit and explicit means of data collection. This trust based system uses shared browsing histories from a user’s self-selected social networks to create both explicit and implicit data collection. NetTrust targets the human element of trust. It projects how a social network can signal meaningful trust information that can make an educative browsing experience. NetTrust allows an individual to select their own trusted sources of information and rate particular sites as trustworthy (or not). NetTrust allows an individual to select their own trusted authoritative sources of information from a market of ratings agencies and combine these ratings with the reputation information from their individual social network. This paper will present the Net Trust system; the dorm-based homophily tests with implications and the undergraduate-focused user testing.

Analyze This: Trendrr Helps Navigate Social Media for Video Companies

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

http://www.beet.tv/2010/05/mark-ghuneim-wiredset.html

Cable network Oxygen has gotten a lot of attention recently for how it uses social media to drive up ratings and interaction. The technology and analytics firm Wiredset is behind that network’s work in social media.

We recently caught up with Mark Ghuneim, who runs Trendrr’s parent company Wiredset. Trendrr was recently named a company to watch by the Altimeter Group.

He told us that other companies using the service to better understand social media include MTV, Comedy Central, and Harper Collins. In addition, Trendrr has also become a useful tool in tracking viral buzz, similar to research firm Visible Measures.

Most recently, Trendrr tracked the social media chatter from Tiger Woods new Nike spot and also analyzed how hit show “Glee” and pop star Justin Bieber would fare in a Twitter-off.
